6 Things To Do In Marrakech

There’s no place I’d rather be than on holiday. Whether that’s soaking up the sun in an exotic location or exploring one of the world’s best cities, I love nothing more than experiencing new places and finding exciting things to do.

Whenever I visit anywhere new I like to get a true feel of what it has to offer. So that means embracing local culture, seeing the sights and getting out and about. As fun as spending a week by the pool is, there’s so much to see and do that it would be a shame not to.

One destination that offers special something that you won’t find elsewhere is Marrakech. Marrakech is a large city in Morocco and it has long been a popular destinations for holidaymakers and tourists. However, in recent years it has taken on a life of its own and Marrakech’s mixture of all things old and new has attracted more people than ever.

What is there to do in Marrakech? I’ve listed six of my top things to do in Marrakech. Thanks to the city’s diversity, there’s something for everyone.

Explore The Imperial City

Marrakech is a beautiful mixture of old meets new and tradition meets wealth, meaning right across the city there’s lots of great architecture. There are a few key places to head when you’re out exploring, such as Mosque Koutoubia and Palais de la Bahia, both of which are impressive structures made of sandstone. It won’t take you long before you see why the city has been nicknamed The Red City.

Experience the nightlife

Marrakech is home to a vast amount of bars and restaurants, plus there’s always a show to see. Just by walking through the city in the evening you’ll find yourself spoilt for choice. Head on over to Comptoir to see the best belly dancers in town.

Visit a rooftop restaurant for a relaxing dinner

If there’s one thing that can be said about Marrakech, is that there’s no shortage of rooftop bars and restaurants. Some of the best views in the city can be seen from restaurants, all of which serve delicious authentic cuisine such as baba ghanoush and falafel. A glass of chilled Moroccan wine on the terrace of El Fenn is an absolute must.

Go on a camel ride with locals

When we think of Marrakech many of us think of desert plains and these shouldn’t be missed. A camel ride is one of the best ways to get a taste of what life outside the city is like; enjoy this out of the ordinary experience with some of Marrakech’s local guides. Camel rides are on all day, with some companies even offering sunset trips.

Check out Marrakech’s shops and boutiques

Shopping in Marrakech is a unique experience and one you won’t want to miss. Though there are large shopping malls throughout Morocco, when you’re in Marrakech it’s the markets you’ll want to check out. Shopping is largely centred around bargaining and bartering, something most of us aren’t accustomed to, but an enjoyable experience all the same. The city’s markets are great places to pick up souvenirs, clothings, scents and homeware - so make sure you save some space in your luggage!

Visit Medina of Marrakech

A trip to Marrakech wouldn’t be complete without time spent in Media of Marrakech. It’s the city’s political, economic and cultural centre and there are a number of impressive monuments, gardens, battlements to see and even an open-air theatre.

So, there you have it! My top six things to do in Marrakech. What are yours?
